Animal Portraits Painted on Commission
COMMISSIONS
I have been painting animals for as long as I can remember but started taking commissions over 30 years ago. I aim to try and capture the character of your animal in an accurate representation, painted in gouache, which is a water- based paint with a bit more depth and strength of colour than water colour. You can choose from a simple head portrait to a whole body, and include sketches in either pencil or paint, which will help to further portray your animal’s character.
More than one animal can be included on the same painting and you will see from looking at my portfolio that there are many different formats and combinations possible. There are several sizes of portraits to suit your requirements and I can arrange for your portrait to be framed at an extra cost, or you can arrange this yourself. They make ideal presents and I am very happy to work around making it a surprise.
ABOUT THE PROCESS
Whenever possible I prefer to meet the animal to be painted, and take my own photographs. I aim to take many photos to help me get a more accurate representation of your animal’s character. However, any suitable photographs that you are able to supply can be helpful, and I am happy to use them to assist me in the portrait. There is a basic charge for taking the photographs and the distance travelled – please see my price list for details of charges. Dogs can be brought to my home for a photo session if this is easier – often the case when a portrait is for a surprise.
If it is not at all possible for me to see your animal, I can take commissions on photographs supplied but this is subject to their quality.
I live in Gloucestershire and will travel to neighbouring counties subject to the travel charge. If I am able to co-ordinate your appointment with another customer within the same area, at the same time, then I am willing to reduce the cost of my travel charges.
